LOPODIUM is a highly effective anti-diarrheal medication that contains loperamide 2mg per capsule. It is designed to provide quick and reliable relief from acute diarrhea and chronic diarrhea associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Loperamide works by slowing down the movement of the gut, reducing the frequency of bowel movements and making stools less watery.
Usage
- Acute Diarrhea: For the symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhea in adults and children over 12 years.
- Chronic Diarrhea: For the management of chronic diarrhea associated with IBS in adults.
- Traveler's Diarrhea: Effective for reducing the symptoms of traveler's diarrhea.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity: Hypersensitivity to loperamide or any of the excipients.
- Children: Not recommended for children under 12 years of age.
- Acute Dysentery: Contraindicated in cases characterized by blood in stools and high fever.
- Ulcerative Colitis: Not to be used in acute ulcerative colitis.
- Bacterial Infections: Avoid in bacterial enterocolitis caused by invasive organisms including Salmonella, Shigella, and Campylobacter.
- Pseudomembranous Colitis: Not to be used in cases associated with broad-spectrum antibiotic use.
Side Effects
- Common Side Effects: Constipation, nausea, abdominal cramps, dizziness, dry mouth, and fatigue.
Directions for Use
- Adults and Children Over 12 Years: The usual starting dose is 2 capsules (4 mg), followed by 1 capsule (2 mg) after each loose stool, not exceeding 8 capsules (16 mg) per day.
- Chronic Diarrhea: The initial dose is 2 capsules per day, which may be adjusted according to the severity of symptoms, not exceeding the maximum recommended dose.
